Folkwang Tanzstudio (FTS)

Folkwang Tanzstudio (FTS) presents a double bill evening with the pieces „wilderness tender“ and „Auftaucher“ from the choreographers Stephanie Miracle and Henrietta Horn.

"wilderness tender" is wildly, intricately physical and awkwardly human. Weaving, struggling, organized, breathing bodies expand and contract together through scenes of tenderness and chaos. Using strikingly colorful, surreal scenic design inspired by the imagery of Henri Rousseau. The piece was premiered on the 1st of March 2018.

"Auftaucher" is a revival of Henrietta Horn's fulminating piece that premiered in 2001 in Jakarta. It lives from the intense and, to the audience, almost tangible suspense between the dancers. Henrietta Horn translates powerful lines of emotional behaviour into physical images of an array of human relation behaviour and conditions from sexual courting, rivalry, rejection, jealousy, impulsiveness to humour, joy, sensuality and zest for life.

The performances are on the 18th , 19th and 20th of October, 7.30 pm. at Neue Aula of the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen.

Further performances of FTS are: „wilderness tender“ on the 26th of October, 8.00 pm in Krefeld, during the festival “MOVE!”, „Auftaucher“on the 6th of November in Medellin, Colombia at the Festival DANZAMED 2018, at the Metropolitan Theatre, Medellin.

Amber is returning to Europe to offer her unique body, movement and rhythm-based framework for promoting resiliency and processing traumatic experience in clients who are survivors of traumatic life events.
This 3-part trauma and polyvagal-informed training is based on the facilitator’s 20 years experience as a Dance Movement Therapist and Somatic Psychotherapist specializing in interpersonal trauma, including torture treatment, refugee mental health, ritual abuse, childhood trauma and human rights violations, in cross cultural contexts. It is Alternate Route Approved for the ADTA R-DMT.

AGRADECEMOS A COLABORAÇÃO PARA DIVULGAR

MÁSCARAS COKWE: DUAS DAS MAIS BELAS MÁSCARAS ANGOLANAS EM LIVRO

A coreógrafa e investigadora angolana Ana Clara Guerra Marques apresentará brevemente o livro “Máscaras Cokwe: a linguagem coreográfica de Mwana Phwo e Cihongo”, o qual tem a chancela das editoras angolana “Kilombelombe” e portuguesa “Guerra & Paz”.

Sobre o livro

Abordando o tema das máscaras numa perspectiva da Etnocoreologia, o livro é produto do seu longo trabalho de investigação no terreno cultural cokwe, incidindo sobre a performance e a linguagem corporal das máscaras de dança Mwana Phwo e Cihongo, enquanto estruturas de comunicação capazes de sustentar uma memória colectiva. A análise dos padrões de dança e das características da performance de cada uma destas máscaras permite a compreensão do seu papel na estruturação e equilíbrio da sociedade cokwe.

Suportado por uma longa viagem de dedicação a leituras, recolha de imagens e à audição de conversas de grande riqueza, o livro apoia-se um enquadramento histórico e social das máscaras estudadas, bem como na sua contextualização nos planos da religião, dos rituais de iniciação e da estética.

Actualizando a informação sobre os Akixi ou bailarinos mascarados na Angola de hoje, a partir de um ponto de vista da dança, enquanto plataforma académica, a obra integra textos introdutórios de dois conceituados investigadores nas áreas das máscaras cokwe e da história da arte africana, respectivamente, Manuel Jordán, actual Curador-Chefe do Musical Instrument Museum, nos Estados Unidos e Bárbaro Martínez-Ruiz, professor emérito de Estudos Africanos na Universidade de Oxford.

Sobre a autora

É Mestre em “Performance Artística – Dança” e Licenciada em Dança na área da Educação.

Bailarina, coreógrafa e investigadora, tem vários artigos publicados em periódicos angolanos e revistas de especialidade estrangeiras e é autora dos livros “A Alquimia da Dança” (1999), “A Companhia de Dança Contemporânea de Angola” (2003), “Para uma História da Dança em Angola – Entre a Escola e a Companhia: Um Percurso pedagógico” (2008) e do Catálogo do Museu do Dundo (Org.), “Memória Viva da Cultura do Leste de Angola” (2012).

Trabalhou durante 37 anos no Ministério da Cultura angolano, onde foi directora e professora da Escola de Dança; autora das primeiras acções para a fundação de um ensino profissional das artes em Angola; membro das comissões instaladoras do Instituto Superior de Artes, dos Institutos Médios de Artes e da comissão interministerial para a criação do Sub-sistema de Educação Artística em Angola. Foi também Consultora do Vice-Ministro e da Ministra da Cultura de Angola.

Pioneira da dança contemporânea em Angola, funda a primeira companhia profissional angolana, a Companhia de Dança Contemporânea de Angola, com a qual propõe novas formas e conceitos de espectáculo, dividindo a sua criação entre a intervenção / crítica social e a extensão artística do seu trabalho de investigação sobre as danças patrimoniais angolanas, com incidência na cultura cokwe. A implementação da Dança Inclusiva é outra das suas contribuições para uma diversificação do olhar sobre a dança em Angola.

Como reconhecimento da sua contribuição para o desenvolvimento das artes e da cultura em Angola, foram-lhe atribuídos o “Prémio Nacional de Cultura e Artes” (2006), o prémio “Identidade” da União Nacional dos Artistas e Compositores (1995), os Diplomas de Honra (2006) e de Mérito (2016) do Ministério da Cultura de Angola e o “Diploma de Honra – Pilar da Dança” da UNAC (2011).

Em Portugal

Máscaras Cokwe: a linguagem coreográfica de Mwana Phwo e Cihongo chega às livrarias a 15 de Novembro. As sessões de lançamento decorrem a 20 de Novembro, às 18h30, na Bertrand Picoas Plaza, em Lisboa e em Faro, Algarve, no dia 17 de Novembro, no Teatro Lethes, às 19 Horas. Outras sessões serão marcadas em datas a divulgar, nos meses de Novembro e Dezembro de 2017.

Em Angola

O lançamento em Angola está agendado para o início do ano de 2018 (em datas a anunciar) e a sua apresentação terá lugar nas províncias de Luanda, Lunda Norte, Lunda Sul e Malange.

With the cooler breeze in November always bring Bangkokian many exciting events leading up to New Year festivity. One festival that should be marked on your calendar is The International Dance Festival.

Peering through the eyes of a passionate former Thai Premier Ballerina,

Vararom Pachimsawat who is behind the festival for the past 16 years .

This year is the 17th edition of the festival.

We asked why?

She simply answered “It is my life” Dance education helps shape my life to be happy and positive. I like to share this gift of what dance education can be of benefit to the younger generation.

Friends of the Arts foundation offers full time dance scholarship to talented young Thais who wish to pursue dance as a profession. The ‘International Dance Festival’ inspires and offers opportunity to students/ semi-professional dancers to participate in the workshops/ master classes conducted by renown international choreographers.

Ten talented Thai semi-professional dance students will have the opportunity to perform with Olga Rolitz dance company from Portugal in the “Rites of Spring” world renowned dance performance, music by Stravinsky on 9th November at one of the most beautiful venue on Chao Phraya river ,the Portuguese Ambassador residence at the Gala Fund Raised Evening. The objective of the evening is to raise 20 scholarships for needy talented teenagers for 2018.

During the 4 weeks of the festival, all the artistic directors of the dance companies will share their experience during pre and post-performance talk .

The International Dance Festival 2017 offers:

33 master classes for dance students and dancers from classical ballet by the renowned Charles Jude the artistic director of the Ballet de L’opera de Bordeaux, contemporary dance to hip hop from the explosive dancer/ choreographer Anthony Hutchinson

Film “Mr. GAGA” that explores into Ohad Naharin’s life , Israeli foremost choreographer .

The exciting contemporary dance performances NIK performance with live concert by ZUG dance company from Spain. The excerpts of a very unique version of Once Upon a time... A Swan Lake by Oplas theatre from Italy. Izmir State Opera and Ballet will present the newly choreographed performance called “Colour of Dance” ," MITSUYUBI ” by Prolific Visionary Production, Japan etc.

4 Months of Free Bollywood and Yoga workshops open to general public during Sat.& Sun. during the month of Nov. – Feb. 2018 at Benjasiri Park.

K. Vararom explained further of how important it is to keep developing and nurturing the new generation of choreographers. Under the framework of the International Dance Festival, we use these opportunity to showcase our home grown choreographers. Each year 4 outstanding young choreographers present their creations. Many had the opportunity to present their work abroad through this platform. Performing artist in Thailand still needs support from general public and government sector.

The highlight of the International Dance Festival 2017 will be during 9th November - 3rd December at various venues Helix garden , the EmQuartier, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre / Benjasiri Park.

The competition attracts teams and individual performers with the aim to participate in the festival, to win the hearts of the audience, as well as to aim to win the difficult battle for Grand Prix of the competition. The International Festival offers a parade of participants on the main square of the city. At the contest there are representatives of the authorities, sponsors and the media. In their free time participants are invited to a rich excursion and entertainment program, as well as intellectual games and disco.

International Festival – Competition GRAN FIESTA – determines the rewards of competition: diploma, winners of three degrees and the owners of the Grand – Prix. All teams and participants of the festival are awarded with prizes and certificates of the founders and organizers of the event. The jury consists of figures of Culture from Spain, France, Canada and other countries.

April 30 | Nietzsche and Dance

IDDF and Nietzsche Circle present "Nietzsche and Dance". Nietzsche inspired many modern dancers, none more so than Isadora Duncan. With this event on Nietzsche and Duncan we bring dancers and thinkers together to explore the dynamic relationship between dancing and thinking. The event includes performances and lectures by Lori Belilove, Kimerer L. LaMothe, Yunus Tuncel, Geoffrey Gee, and Krista Johansson. $25 general / $20 student. BUY NOW

May 7 | Isadora Birthday Celebration

IDDF offers a full day of dance classes for professional dancers, children ages 4-9, and the general public, with a minimum contribution of $5 at the door. At 5:00 p.m. begins a birthday party for Isadora and includes wine and cheese reception, opening remarks by Lori Belilove, performance of "Tanagra Figures" by The Company, participating students and guest dancers, video screening of rare archival footage, and a super sale of "all things Isadora" (tunics, wreaths, scarves, books, posters, and videos). The event is suitable for families and art lovers, with a raffle, birthday cake, and bubbly. Proceeds go toward The Company's performing tour to Athens. Tickets are $20. BUY NOW

May 9 | IDDF 2016 Gala

This event includes performance by Lori Belilove & The Isadora Duncan Dance Company, live music, buffet dinner, wine and cocktails, and live auction. May 13-14 | Salon Performances

IDDF presents its signature Salon series. On Friday, May 13 the program, titled "You were wild once, don't let them tame you." includes a pre-show lecture "Isadora: the original lean-in feminist and wild woman" by Lori Belilove. On Saturday, May 14 the program draws upon "Inspiration of the Greek Ideal". Both performances are followed by cake and bubbly with The Company. May 27-June 3 | Beijing Normal University

Lori Belilove returns to Beijing Normal University for one week. She will teach the Duncan technique and offer teacher training to students at the Dance and Dance Education Departments.

June 25 | Old Westbury Gardens

We return to perform at Old Westbury Gardens on Saturday, June 25 (rain date: Sunday, June 26). Lori Belilove has created a site-specific homage to the gardens with her dancers using Greek mythology as thematic reference points. The program begins at 7:00 p.m. with a performance at Colonnade, continues with a dance class/may pole for children at South Allee, and culminates in a performance at South Lawn.

June 29 - July 6 | Study Tour to Greece

Our study tour includes dance classes, children's class observations, and lectures at Isadora's re-stored house on the hill of Kopanos. We will immerse ourselves in Greek culture, visiting museums and archeological sites and enjoying tavernas and romantic nights of the city. This study tour is open to dancers, scholars, and lifelong students who are eager for the experience of a lifetime. MORE INFO

July 5 - August 9 & August 20 | Fort Tryon Park

In partnership with Fort Tryon Park Trust, we return to offer free class series for children ages 6-10. Classes are held every Tuesday and Saturday between July 5 to August 9 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Children who attend class regularly will have the opportunity to participate in a pre-show performance with The Company on August 20. Hiddenidol aims at showcasing the talents of all the participants by capturing the performance and making it available on video on our demand site hiddenidol.com. We are driven by our passion for identifiying talents and showcasing them to the world. The winner will go to Dubai and Singapore.

Individual and solo performances allowed.
One person can submit multiple video entries.
Register and Upload your recent video (not older than 3 months) at hiddenidol.com for selection to Audition round.
Videos length can be within 10 minutes.
Dance should be clearly visible for selection purposes.
Maximum allowed video size is 200MB.
Videos can be shot by individuals with any device and need not necessarily be professionally recorded.
Videos must be recently recorded. Not older than 3 months.
Auditions will be held at multiple locations in India and also in some countries before finals. Please see audition section.
For contestants selected for audition where there is no venue, Audition will be done remotely and contestants do not need to travel.

EXITOS DE LA COMPAÑÍA IRENE RODRIGUEZ

Durante los meses de Octubre y Noviembre la Compañía Irene Rodríguez estuvo inmersa en dos giras internacionales cosechando muchísimos éxitos en ambas naciones.

La primera presentación de la Compañía ocurrió en Estados Unidos, precisamente en la ciudad de Seattle actuando en el célebre teatro Moore con un éxito de espectadores y una maravillosa acogida del público. Para esta ocasión se preparó un espectáculo concierto de un corte flamenco/contemporáneo, que compartió temporada, en esa misma escena, con varias de las compañías norteamericanas más afamadas en este momento.

Durante el mes de Noviembre tuvo lugar en el majestuoso Teatro Nacional (Sala Principal Eduardo Brito) de Santo Domingo, República Dominicana, la puesta en escena del espectáculo “Sinfonía española: de lo clásico al flamenco” que ya nos fuera galardonado en nuestro país con su inclusión en el Libro de Honor del Gran Teatro de la Habana en el año 2013. Esta vez, dicho espectáculo contó con la presencia de la Orquesta Filarmónica de Santo Domingo bajo la batuta del Maestro Carlos Andrés Mejías y la invitación de miembros del Ballet Nacional de Cuba que se incorporaron al elenco de bailarines de la Compañía Irene Rodríguez, gracias a la eterna amabilidad y apoyo de Alicia Alonso. La crítica especializada fue estrepitosamente positiva apareciendo reseñas, algunas en primera plana, sobre la función que tuvo lugar a teatro lleno (1625 capacidades) en la mayoría de la prensa nacional como los periódicos: el Nacional, el Listin Diario, el Hoy y el Nuevo Diario.

Conquistar ambos escenarios con espectáculos tan diversos y complejos fue todo un reto para nuestra agrupación que el próximo enero cumplirá sus 4 años de fundada.

As Shambhavi School of Dance steps into its 20th year, we are happy to confer the “NAMMAVARU AWARD” to Ms. G.V. Latha, renowned danseuse & cini actress and Ms. P. Rama, renowned vocalist not only for their contribution to the field of art but more so for journeying with us as ‘ NAMMAVARU’ .

IGNCA PROGRAMME SCHEDULE FOR OCTOBER, 2014

Africans in India: A Rediscovery

Exhibition : IGNCA is hosting an exhibition ‘Africans in India: A Rediscovery’. This exhibition of photographs retracing the life and achievements of prominent Afro-Indians comes from the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, New York and includes photographic reproductions of paintings from private collections and museums as well as contemporary photographs. This is the first time these photographs are being shown in India. The exhibition will be open from 9th October to 4th November, 2014 at Matighar, C.V. Mess, Janpath from 10.00am - 6.00pm (Monday closed).

The exhibition will be inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of State for Culture and Tourism (Independent Charge), Shri Shripad Yesso Naik at 5.30pm on 8th October, 2014 at IGNCA Amphitheatre.

The inauguration will be followed by a performance by Siddi Goma Troupe, the Black Sufis of Gujarat.

It is a dance-drama form of Kerala based on ancient Sanskrit texts like Natyasastra. IGNCA is organising this dance performance in collaboration with SPICMACAY. The performance will be by Mr. Mohana Krishnan and troupe. IGNCA and SPICMACAY will also host Ottamthullal performances at various schools in Delhi.

Tana Bhagat was a tribal community leader of Chota Nagpur. As a social reformer, he fought against the superstitions and drunkenness prevalent among tribals and preached non-violence.

Despite the ever-fragile economic state of U.S. dance, I am sure you believe (as we do) that the creative developments in our field are dynamic, fertile, and thrilling.

American Dance Abroad has been focused for three years now on a large issue - the export of American dance. Touring has diminished significantly over the last three decades. Although cultural import is at an all-time high, the exchange equation is imbalanced by the infrequency of U.S. dance on global stages.

New, this year, is the official launch of Rapid Response, and we need your help to keep it going so that U.S. dance choreographers and companies can continue to say YES to international invitations. The hurdle is not as insurmountable as we think - if everyone who was sent this email contributed, we would easily surpass our goal and ensure the continuation of Rapid Response. Please watch our video and consider making a donation to this crowd funding campaign.

Rapid Response strategically awards seed funding in response to U.S. artists who have received international invitations. Rapid Response is bridging a gap and helping to create an empowering model for both artists and international presenters. At the moment, only a few organizations fund the export of U.S. dance. None, however, offer an artist the ability to respond quickly to an invitation (which may be the deciding factor for an international programmer). The artists are loving Rapid Response! And, already the requests far exceed our current level of available funds.

- Launched American Dance Recon, which has hosted 29 international presenters for three, five-day intensive symposia to see dance live on stages and in rehearsals in U.S. cities;

- Brought delegations of U.S. artists, managers and agents to such international marketplaces as the Performing Arts Market Seoul, the Australian Performing Arts Market, CINARS, and the Internationale Tanzmesse to network and build relationships;

- Inaugurated ADR/Global, which welcomed five Chinese presenters and one Japanese presenter to Guangzhou, China for the debut of the Mark Morris Dance Group;

- Provided seed travel funding for four choreographers/companies to accept international invitations to perform or teach.

Are you member of a youth-led or youth-focused organization, a project leader or a young entrepreneur who is active in an established NGO?

Have you got creative and innovative ideas related to one of the 7 themes of the 8th UNESCO Youth Forum which will take place at UNESCO Headquarters, Paris, from 29 to 31 October 2013 (social inclusion, civic engagement and participation, social entrepreneurship and innovation, prevention of violence and conflicts, intercultural dialogue, democracy and skills development)?

The following information will interest you!

You can become one of the young actors driving social change, as part of the UNESCO
Youth Forum, by sending us your proposal for an innovative action project to be implemented in your community, country or region, by 12 August 2013 ̶ International Youth Day!
For the first time in its history, the UNESCO Youth Forum will be placed under the global theme “Youth and Social Inclusion: civic engagement, dialogue and skills development”, will select 15 youth-led action projects, representing all of the world’s regions, and award them with a UNESCO Youth Forum Label. The label will be a mark of quality and feasibility, and a concrete recognition of the young initiators of the winning projects, offering a boost in their work. It will also be a starting point for the implementation of the projects, by helping to mobilize support, funds,
partnerships and international visibility.

By the end of September 2013, out of all the proposals received from 15 July to 12 August 2013, an international independent jury will pre-select 45 projects and their initiators will be invited to submit an original and creative one-minute video describing their project so that these 45 short films can be visible online by mid-October 2013. The 45 pre-selected projects will then be discussed by the young participants of the 8th UNESCO Youth Forum. Finally, 15 youth-led action projects (3
youth-led action projects per the five UNESCO regions) will be selected to be announced on 31 October 2013 and presented to the 37th UNESCO General Conference in November 2013.

Allowing young people to submit recommendations to 195 UNESCO’s Member States’ representatives at the highest decision-making level, the UNESCO Youth Forum brings together, every two years, at the eve of the UNESCO General Conference, around 400
young participants from all over the world to exchange views, share experiences, reflect together and, above all, detect common preoccupations and problems.

As expounded in its UNESCO Youth Strategy 2014-2021, UNESCO recognizes youth as key drivers of peace and development and agents for positive change. The Organization strives to promote youth-led actions across the globe by offering face-to-face support and help in putting ideas of young women and men into practice.

Folkwang Tanzstudio (FTS) presents a double bill evening with the pieces „wilderness tender“ and „Auftaucher“
from the choreographers Stephanie Miracle and Henrietta Horn.

"wilderness tender" is wildly, intricately physical and awkwardly human. Weaving, struggling, organized, breathing bodies
expand and contract together through scenes of tenderness and chaos. Using strikingly colorful, surreal scenic design
inspired by the imagery of Henri Rousseau. The piece was premiered on the 1st of March 2018.

"Auftaucher" is a revival of Henrietta Horn's fulminating piece that premiered in 2001 in Jakarta. It lives from the
intense and, to the audience, almost tangible suspense between the dancers. Henrietta Horn translates powerful
lines of emotional behaviour into physical images of an array of human relation behaviour and conditions from
sexual courting, rivalry, rejection, jealousy, impulsiveness to humour, joy, sensuality and zest for life.

The performances are on the 18th , 19th and 20th of October, 7.30 pm. at Neue Aula of the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen.

Further performances of FTS are: „wilderness tender“ on the 26th of October, 8.00 pm in Krefeld, during the festival “MOVE!”,
„Auftaucher“on the 6th of November in Medellin, Colombia at the Festival DANZAMED 2018, at the Metropolitan Theatre, Medellin.
