Ballett Gesellschaft Hannover hereby invites applications for
the 31 th International Competition for Choreographers, Hanover.

The competition is open to choreographers and dancers with
a professional education and of any artistic style. The relevant criteria
for the competition are the imaginative use of space and time, the
realization of the idea, and the transfer to the actors. The competition
is limited to choreographers aged 35 years or younger.
The performance has to be between five and twelve minutes long.
Solo-ballets may not be interpreted by the choreographer her/himself.
Based upon these formal conditions we create the possibility of a
competition open to any artistic style.

Delattre Dance Company Award
Tanja Li edtke Foundation: Scholarship at the Australian Dance Theatre

Delattre Dance Company Award:
The winner will receive the opportunity to present the choreography
shown in the competition in a production of the Delattre Dance
Company with the dancers of DDC.

Tanja Liedtke Foundation will donate a three week‘s scholarship
at the Australian Dance Theatre in Adelaide, Australia.
The scholarship includes travel costs, accomodation, and ADT tuition.

Scapino Ballett Rotterdam Production Award:
The winner of the Scapino Production Award is given the
opportunity to create a choreography for Scapino Ballet
Rotterdam, which will be shown during TWOOLS.

Bundesjugendballett Hamburg Production Award:
The winner of this award isto create a choreography with the
„Bundesjugendballet“ in Hamburg, which was founded by
John Neumeier in 2011 and promotes gifted youths.

Gauthier Dance/Dance Company Theaterhaus Stuttgart
Production Award:
In 2014, for the first time, Eric Gauthier was sponsor of the Production
Award Gauthier Dance/Dance Company Theaterhaus Stuttgart.

Choreography 30

30th International Choreographic Competition Hanover 2016

11th and 12th of June, 2016

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,

Next Year the Ballet Society Hanover organize the International Competition for Choreographers Hanover. Within the last years the competition estimated as an important event in the national and international dance scene.

These are the competition guidelines:

All participants, choreographers and dancers, ought to have professional training. Choreographers must be 35 or younger. The competition is open to any kind of style. Evaluation is based exclusively on imaginative use of space and time, the realisation of an idea, and its transfer onto the performers. The duration of the performance, have to be between 5 and 12 minutes. A solo-ballet may not be interpreted by the choreographer him/herself.

The applicant is free in his choice of subject and music. A PAL-DVD (Video) of the choreographic work must be delivered to the organisers. The DVD may only contain the choreography to be performed in the competition. Alternatively is a video/Internet-link possible. A prejury will select a maximum of 20 the submitted works, which will enter the contest. The artistic director of the jury is Ed Wubbe, director of  Scapino Ballett Rotterdam.

The money that can be won for the first 3 endowed prizes amounts 13.500 EUR. The audience prize amounts 1.000 EUR. Furthermore there is a critics prize of 1.500 EUR
and the Scapino Production Prize.

Production Awards

NEW: On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the International competition for choreographers in Hanover, the Tanja Liedtke Foundation will donate a three week‘s scholarship at the Australian Dance Theatre in Adelaide, Australia. This Prize will be awarded by Garry Stewart, Director of The Australian Dance Theatre. The scholarship includes travel costs, accomodation, and ADT tuition.

Since 2005 Ed Wubbe, the artistic director of the competition, awards the Scapino production award. The award includes the development of an unique choreography with dancers from Scapino Ballet and the presentation in the series TWOOLS.

Since 2012: Production Award Bundesjugendballett

The Bundesjugendballett was founded by John Neumeier in  2011. Since 2012 the Bundesjugendballett  also sponsors a production award. Part of the award is the development of a choreography with the Bundesjugendballett.

Since 2014: Gauthier Dance/Dance CompanyTheaterhaus Stuttgart Production Award. In 2014 Eric Gauthier for the first time award the Production Award Gauthier Dance. Gauthier Dance was founded in 2007. Eric Gauthier has been awarded the German Dance Prize »Future« 2011 for choreography  and the Theatre Award "Der Faust."
