During March 15-19, 2019, in the city of Batumi, by the Georgian Union of Choreographers and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, by support from the Culture and Arts Development Union Art-Folk, Institute of Culture and the National Center of Georgian Choreography was organized the already traditional International Scientific-Practical Conference – Choreographic Folklore – History and Modernity. The Conference was opened by the Minister of Education, Culture and Sports of Adjara Inga Shamilishvili in the Shota Rustaveli Batumi State University.

“Georgian intangible cultural heritage dates back to the Pre-Christian era and has been preserved in the original type until today. Preservation, protection and popularization of the Georgian cultural values gains even more importance in the current globalization epoch; in addition with training of song directors and choreographers; raising of new generations. Therefore, it is important to scientifically study and analyze it. This is the cause which our today’s choreographic forum is dedicated to; the already traditional conference. I am confident that it will highly contribute to the popularization of Georgian cultural values and the very responsible task of taking care of it,” Inga Shamilishvili stressed.

In the Conference participated and the honorable guests were: President of the UNESCO International Dance Council Mr. Alkis Raftis; Her Excellency, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to Mrs. Dessislava Ivanova; and the Concellor of the Embassy Tihomir Todorov; President of the Vanadzor Section of the UNESCO CID Miss Anahit Saribekyan; President of the European Association of Folklore Festivals (EAFF) Mr. Kaloyan Nikolov. Present also were delegates from: Latvia, Ukraine, Armenia, Russia, Macedonia and Turkey. Goal of the Scientific Conference is to support the further development of the intercultural relationships between peoples; extension of the scopes of interdisciplinary researches of the cultural heritage and resolution of the challenges of preservation and saving of choreographic heritage. In the Conference participated researchers-scientists, young specialists, practicing choreographers, experts, students, specialists of humanitarian and social-political fields. Opening of the Conference was attended by the Deputy Minister of Education, Culture and Sports of Adjara Mrs. Teona Beridze, Senior Specialist of the Department of Culture of the Ministry Mrs. Madona Tevzadze and Deputy Rector of the Shota Rustaveli University Mrs. Tamar Siradze.

On March 15 was held the meeting with the Head of Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara Mr. Tornike Rizhvadze and Minister of Education, Culture and Sports of Adjara Mrs. Inga Shamilishvili. The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Georgian Union of Choreographers Prof. Rezo Chanishvili, Executive Secretary of the Union of Choreographers Mr. Murman Gamisonia, UNESCO CID President Mr. Alkis Raftis and President of the European Association of Folklore Festivals Mr. Kaloyan Nikolov.

March 16, the first day of the Conference was dedicated to the guests. The Conference audience was addressed by:

Mr. Murat Erdem – IFDO Founder and President; Yulia Makarova – Moscow City leading Children and Youth Ensemble Ritmy Detsva Art Supervisor; Mr. Krume Brjanov – Macedonia, Skopje Orchestra - KUO Orce Nikolov Dictor, Art Director of MakFolk and Folklore Festivals Association.

Along with speeches the delegates presented visual material about choreographic folklore of their countries. After the end of the first day of the Conference, guests attended the opening of the star of the Honored Artist of Adjara and Abkhazia Autonomous Republics in front of the State Academic Ensemble of Adjara Arsiani and the concert by the ensemble.

Prof. Ucha Dvalishvili – Head of the Choreographic Department of the Shota Rustaveli University of Theatre and Cinema of Georgia; Head of the Choreographic Department of the Georgian State Folklore Center; PhD of Arts Studies; Mrs. Ekaterine Geliashvili – Head of the Choreographic Art Direction of the Shota Rustaveli University of Theatre and Cinema of Georgia; Associated Professor; PhD in Arts Studies; Mr. Aleko Gelashvili – Senior Teacher of the Shota Rustaveli University of Theatre and Cinema of Georgia, choreographer, ethno-choreologist, PhD in Arts Studies; Mrs. Miranda Bagdadishvili – Honored Artist of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Honored Worker of Arts of Batumi, Choreographer-teacher at the Batumi City Municipality E. Khabadze State Choreographic Ensemble; Mrs. Marine (Maka) Taktakishvili – Expert in Intangible Heritage of the National Agency for Georgian Cultural Heritage Protection, PhD in Humanitarian Sciences; Mr. Zaur Lazishvili – Honored Artist of Adjara Autonomous Republic, Professor, Director of the Folklore Arts School of Batumi.

In parallel, in the Batumi Musical Center, by organization from the Georgian Union of Choreographers was held the two-part Concert, by participation from children, young and municipal ensembles from all the regions of Georgia. The Concert was attended by the foreign guests, who addressed the concert participants and audience after the completion of the concert.

On March 18, at the Shota Rustaveli University of Theatre and Cinema of Georgia was held the Concert, by participation from the Batumi Folklore Arts School choir and Batumi 10th Public School Children Choreographic Ensemble Mate; supervised by the choreographer Mikheil Makhatadze.

Sightseeing tour in Batumi was organized for the guests.

Participants of the Conference must send the application and thesis before February 28, 2019

Goal of the Festival:
• Development of folklore arts; popularization of the world folklore culture; sharing of experience between participants; empowerment of mutual respect and tolerance; deepening of creative contacts; popularization of Georgian and world folklore arts; improvement of the level of qualification of choreographers;

Festival Participants:

Folklore groups from different countries of the world and different regions of Georgia (ages not limited) take part in the Festival.

Participation Conditions:

Participants present two shows (3-5 minutes each) in the following nominations: folklore dances, folklore songs (ensembles and individual); songs and romances; folklore handcraft arts (exhibitions). In the final conclusive concert participating artists will present only one show. Music can be live or phonogram. With the application Festival participants submit their program (audio, video files of their previous shows, materials necessary to be published in the newspaper and Festival booklet). Festival participants will be awarded with the Festival Laureate Diplomas and different presents.

Conference and Festival funding: According to self-funding principle each foreign participating groups pay the following fee per participant of their group:

• EURO 200 – 4 days – 2-start hotel accommodation (2, 3 bed rooms), meals 3 times a day; all in-country transportation, including airport transfer both ways;

• EURO 300 – 4 days – 3-star hotel accommodation (2, 3 bed rooms), meals 3 times a day; all in-country transportation, including airport transfer both ways;

• EURO 650 – 4 days –5-star hotel accommodation (2 bed rooms), meals 3 times a day; all in-country transportation, including airport transfer both ways;

Important: Every 16th participant of a Festival participant group is free from the Festival fee;

Deadline for submitting applications: 15/02/2019 – at the moment of submitting an application a participating group transfers 50% advance payment of the whole fee to be paid. Remaining 50% is to be transferred not later than a week ahead of the start of Festival.
