Dansehallerne on the move!
Contemporary, performative choreographic art infiltrates Copenhagen and Denmark with galloping dance, bodies in exile, a lush garden, a tingling lawn, a somatic DJing for horizontal people and works for children, adults, dogs and cats. Dansehallerne is presenting the program for season 2017-18.
We move to move you!
It is a busy time at Dansehallerne, the national platform and leading institution for choreographic performative art in Denmark. A lot of exiting things are happening! We have just moved out of our former building in Carlsberg Byen and are now “on the move” with a temporary office in the heart of Copenhagen. We have launched the new season 2017/18 with performances, events, seminars and participatory choreographic art in new spaces and frameworks, in Copenhagen and all over the country. This we’ve done in collaboration with national and international partners. Besides these performances, installations, debates, dance films, events, seminars and a massive support to independent choreographers, Dansehallerne has a lot of new initiatives in pipeline.
New partners – alternative venues
One of Dansehallerne’s most important partners in 2017/18 is Kunsthal Charlottenborg, which is one of the most exiting spaces for contemporary art in Northern Europe. In Kunsthal Charlottenborg we have events throughout the season. Among others we present Displacement by the Syrian dancer and choreographer Mithkal Alzghair, who is selected by the European network Aerowaves as one of the most promising emerging choreographers in Europa 2017.
As part of the challenging, reflecting, interacting program we stage a festival called CLOSE ENCOUNTERS in February 2018 at Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art where we invite visitors to enjoy five days of challenging experiences. Here you can experience somatic DJing by the media-vagabond and fearless sampler Daniela Bershan (DE/IL), the artist duo QUATRO (SE/BR), Gazart (DK) will invite children to discover the endless wonders and opportunities concealed amidst the soaring stalks in Grassgreen while Krööt Juurak (EST) and Alex Bailey (UK) will do Performances for Pets. Dansehallerne will also be present at the The Royal Danish Theatre in cooperation with Corpus in the spring 2018 where we present Dark Field Analysis by Jefta Van Dinther (SE/DE) and 69 positions by Mette Ingvartsen (DK/BE). We stage performances, installations and events in a church, in galleries, schools, in a cafe and at several other venues and places in Copenhagen and Denmark in order to celebrate, develop and share contemporary, performative choreographic art with the Danes and the rest of the world.

Dansehallerne
A leading institution for contemporary choreographic performative art, a public venue and a national “hub”, located in central Copenhagen with a small branch in Aarhus.
Besides the curated programme, we provide meeting places for everyone interested in experiencing choreographic practices, research processes and critical debate. We invite the public to join performances, seminars, residency presentations and artist’s talks.
Our activities include socially interactive and inclusive projects, explorative laboratories and workshops to raise awareness about art, its relevance and to make choreographic performative arts more accessible. By doing this, we take a leading position in the development of new formats for public events and creative activities for all ages, including the very young and children.
Beside the great number of visiting artists, there are about 200 in-house artists using the facilities of Dansehallerne for training, rehearsing, sharing and presenting. We conduct high-level professional training, courses and seminars; provide premises for rehearsals, artistic development work, research and residencies as well as administrative support for artistic production.
