The 2016 Selma Odom Lecture
The Selma Odom Lecture was established in 2010 to honour the scholarly and educational contributions of York University Professor Emerita Selma Odom. A leading light of Canadian dance studies and of York’s Department of Dance for almost four decades, Dr. Odom now devotes herself to her research and writing projects following retirement from full-time teaching at York.
40 Years of Excellence
This year’s Lecture acknowledges and celebrates the 40th anniversary of the founding of graduate programs in dance by Dr. Odom. The four speakers, all graduates of the MA/PhD in dance, represent these four decades: Norma Sue Fisher-Stitt, Megan Andrews, Bridget Cauthery, and Evadne Kelly. The event is co-hosted by Dance Collection Danse.

TRACING EXPERIENCE THROUGH THE DANCE OF MUGHAM
June 17 - 19, 2016
Friday & Saturday at 8pm
Sunday at 2pm
Aki Studio, 585 Dundas Street East
The program features two new works by Sashar Zarif, Forgotten Tale Of Mugham and Inner Exile, as well as a special repeat performance of Oyan! / Awakening, a mystical journey of man's spiritual ascent through body, mind and emotions. This international multi-disciplinary collaboration facilitates an encounter between remembering, perceiving, and imagining in time and space. Oyan! / Awakening is a physical incarnation of the emotional allegory, "Oyan!”, a masterpiece composition by Franghiz Ali-Zadeh.

Be part of the excitement of Can-Am DanceSport Gala 2016
The success of the Can-Am DanceSport Gala has established this Championship event as one of the premier competitions in North America. By all indications, from all the comments that were received during and after the event, our new venue, with its Toronto Harbourfront location, proved to be the right choice for the return of the Can-Am. The 2016 event once again takes place in the 24,000 square foot Metropolitan Grand Ballroom of the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel.
This landmark waterfront hotel rises above Lake Ontario and is conveniently located near the Air Canada Centre, CN Tower, Theatre District and many other Toronto attractions. As an added bonus for Can-Am travelers, it is literally only blocks away from the crossing to the Toronto Island Airport that services Porter Airlines as well as Air Canada. Porter Airlines flies to selected US & Canadian cities and is known for offering “Business Class” amenities to all their passengers. The Toronto Island Airport also makes travel a more positive experience, as it requires less than half the “checking in” time than most Airports do.
The organizers of Can-Am competition, through a well-planned schedule, a distinguished panel of judges, high level competition, and great attention to detail, will once again bring you a world class event that is exciting, rewarding and thoroughly enjoyable for all participants, Amateurs, Professionals as well as spectators.
As a DanceSport event, along with experiencing the excitement of competition and memorable dance performances, Can-Am is also about experiencing all the fun, elegance and class that ballroom dancing has to offer.
We invite you to Toronto. We invite you to be part of this incredible experience.
